This is where the volcanoes, most of which are active, are located. Tonga's kava plantations also grow here and are cared for by folk from nearby islands, as there are no inhabitants on the Tofua itself. The main reasons most visitors come to the island, is to see the huge freshwater lake and to walk through the beautiful rainforest abound with bird life and outsized ferns. Tofua is also well known as the area where the Mutiny on the Bounty took place, way back in 1789, and visitors can picture the scene, by taking a trip to the Mutiny on the Bounty Beach.
