Turkey - Ephesus

It takes a pretty special kind of place to house of one of the Seven Wonders of the World; therefore Ephesus must qualify as just that. As one of the best-preserved Classical cities in the entire eastern Mediterranean, Ephesus is the proud home to the magnificent Temple of Diana – a testimony to the importance of this once bustling Roman city. The remains of the city including the fantastic Great Theatre and the Gymnasium of Vedius give a clear impression of how life was spent in a Roman city – and a Roman city raved about by St Paul to boot. If that’s not tempting enough, nearby there is the also the site of Meryemana, alledged to be the house of the Virgin Mary and a world-famous shrine attracting thousands of pilgrims each year.
