The town of Tacuarembó is full of interesting statues and plazas, established in 1832, its monuments commemorate many important people of Uruguay including writers, military figures and clergy members. Visitors who come in March will be able to mingle with the locals at the 3 day Fiesta de la Patria Gaucha festival, which attracts people from all over the country, with music and gaucho (riding) skills being amongst its festivities. Any visitors coming over from Montevideo will have a journey of around five and a half hours, but the trip is definitely well worth the wait.
