Let’s face it, the main reason anybody visits Beale Street is to get a taste of the music. The list of venues reads like a name-check for Memphis’ R ‘n’ R hall of fame. There’s the fancy nightclub and restaurant ‘Elvis Presley’s’ guarded vigilantly by a statue of the ‘King’ himself; BB King’s Café – the hottest club on the Street, occasionally visited by BB in person; Willie Mitchell’s R&B Club which has live music with occasional big name acts. Then there is Blues City Café which featured in the Tom Cruise vehicle The Firm and offers its side stage up to amateur Blues artists; Rum Boogie Café which has live Blues every night and contains a breathtaking collection of memorabilia including autographed guitars of Carl Perkins, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Dixon, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Joe Walsh of ZZ Top.
