Quite possibly the most famous whiskey in the world, Jack Daniels, Tennessee Sipping Whiskey (it is not a bourbon) has been produced using the same methods for around 150 years. A visit to the distillery in Lynchburg (about half an hours drive from Nashville) offers you not only the chance to learn the careful process that gives JD its distinctive flavour but also a chance to taste the whiskey before and after it has been charcoal filtered (or leached) before being dumped in maturation casks. The distillery’s century and a half history also plays a large part of the tour – folk find it astonishing that Jack Daniel was a successful distiller by the age of 13. A fascinating insight into one of the USA’s premier exports.
