Declared a national monument due to its artistic and historical qualities, Iglesia De San Francisco is a church made up of a rectangle with 3 naves and provides a significant example of Latin American Baroque in Venezuela. The building, dating back to 1593, cares for many valuable and impressive altarpieces and was the place of Venezuelan, Simón Bolívar’s public announcement as "El Libertador" (the Liberator) in 1813, whom had an immense funeral here, twelve years after his actual death in 1830.
