Even little groups with more than 4 people we advise to book somewhere else, since even little groups edestroy our atmoshere. Sorry for that ! People for just 1 day we do not really appreciate, sorry, but we want it cosy and prefer people, who have some time for Berlin. We have visitors who stay for weeks, and enjoy Berlin from the deeper knowlegde and experience. Berlin is a town, where is make not much sense to spend 1 or 2 days here. It is a metropolis of the size of London and Paris or New York, but very much inexpensive, cheaper than any town of western Europe. So plan to stay longer ! You will not regret it. Hindus, Buddhist, Jews & Muslims are as welcome as Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals or Vegetarians. And so are Darks, Aliens & Vampirs. And cute footballers, to some extent. The new Hostel with just a few beds is in a usual Berliner building of 1895, with it's antique charm, combined with some oriental flavour, provided near some oriental elements and decorations. 2) WHERE IS IT ? 'John's cosy Little Backpackers Hostel Berlin' is only 7 few minutes away from the rail station ( ZOO = Zoologischer Garten ) only 4 few minutes away from the underground station 'Turmstr.' 2 underground-lines, 1 few minutes from 15 bu es, 4 of them all night long 15 few minutes from TXL= Tegel Airport near bus ( 2 ! ) 30 few minutes from SXF= Sch nefeld Airport near rail ( 2 ! ) only 5 few minutes away from the underground station 'Birkenstr.' only 6 few minutes away from the S-Bahn station 'Westhafen' 10 few minutes from the lake 'Pl tzensee' with sand-beach / sea, 20 min. from the lake 'Wannsee' with 2 km sand-beach / sea surfing and sailing offered ! 3) INCLUDED AND FREE : a) FREE simple vegetarian breakfast buffet (self service) : Tea, coffee, whole-corn-toast, 7 jams, carotts, cucumbers etc. Extras : Cornflakes or M sli with milk can be provided for just 1 . Reception is open only from 7h to 23h Otherwise call for a special arrangement (3 extra per hour for an extra night shift ) , near telephone only. Please make sure you come at the time you said you will in your reservation. If you come more than an hour late, your beds might have been given away. 5) THE vicinity : MITTE - TIERGARten - MOABIT The Berliner district Moabit, founded 1748 near protestant refugees, between the two Royal Castles, the Stadtschlo and Charlottenburg, was 1949 put together with the big Tiergarten-Park, and some streets south of it to the district TIERGARten. 1999 it was united with the eastern district Mitte and Wedding to the new MITTE District. Mitte means centre. It is in a kind of multicultural vicinity, mixed with a lot of students, workers, some artists, and all sorts of immigrants, mainly arabic, turkish, kurdish, bosnian and iranian, some italian and isr li, and even australian and japanese. There are some little unpretentious bars next doors, like the 'Subito', and anything else is not far or can easy be reached near underground or bus. You can chose between 195 Underground stops, 400 bus lines and 25 trams and we are just in the middle of it. 6) GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE HOSTEL unwinded. Distinctive. individual. 'JOHN'S' has the charme of a usual Berliner building from the Kaiser-Time ( 1895), with 'Stuck' everywhere, and high ceilings of 4 meters. The rooms have wooden floors and the 4 meter high walls are painted in the bright colours of Egypt's deserts, combined with some oriental elements, originating from the owners' favour for North-Africa & Asia, especially of Egypt, India & Indonesia. There is some oriental style, the doors f. i. are nile-blue , and the bath-rooms remind on the Alhambra of Granada. There are only dorms with 5, 6 or 8 beds, and 1 double. The oriental Rooms have soft 1st cla matraces on the wooden floors the occiental Rooms have Swedish Wooden beds The hostel is inclusively smoke-free. But outside is smoking po ible. This hostel is designed for single travelers, who like meeting other people, while they are travelling, preferable those who do not regard themselves as a part of the main-stream tourists. Most of our visitors are at the moment from Canada, Sweden, Italy and France, Japan, Danmark and India. Some long time visitors are there from Sweden, Japan, England, Austria, Kasachstan and California / USA, It is a little place, with an ambience of a big family's home or of a pleasant students-share-house, quite unwinded, where you can feel like at a home. It is inclusively free of noisy groups or school-kids, only individual travelers with character are here, since groups bigger than 4 are not accepted at all, because they might destroy our cosy ambience. We try to offer a welcoming, romantic , human, cosy & a bit artistic hostel, with a lot of communication among the travellers . Since the owners are fans of Arabia, esp. Egypt, and Asia, esp. Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand ,Malaysia, Singapore, there is some flavour of it present. Due to Johns special interests, fans of playstation 2 and x-box are especially welcome, as well as adventurers & discoverrs of Africa or Asia, Arabia or Iran, which are John's special hobbies Some plants and paintings will provide a cosy ambience with a touch of an artists personal home, which is open to individual backpackers, students, world-travellers, artists, and discoverrs of culture, history or night-life. 7) offered EXTRAS: - web access for 1 per hour only, 1 PC inside the hostel, and 25 outside, 2 few minutes away !!! - towels to borrow 1 - Soft drinks 1 - Laundry service 7 - telephone from 10 cents - Museum-tickets - maps 1 and 3 - trips and picnics to the country side from 10 8) STATISTICS: Most of our visitors are from Australia, Italia, New York , Spain, Sweden, Japan, California, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Hawaii, Indonesia, India, Canada, and Egypt. We have as well constantly language-students staying for longer with us, especially from Asia, which sometimes stay for monthes More than 40 '% of our visitor were answering to be Gay or Bisexual on our forms, if the answered it. 9) FURTHER DESCRIPTIONS of the place When you enter, you have to take off your shoes, like it is very common in Arabic or Asian homes, where John and David used to spend their times. Inside are some antique persian carpets on the floor to inclusive the oriental touch. There is a cosy living-room, we you can meet other visitors, furnished with some older sofas and arm-chairs from the 70ies, all individual pieces from our family. Here we have as well a Television, where the visitors can watch some of John's DVDs, among those Science fiction films, adventure films, action films and films of David's Film Festival collection. THe kitchen,which can be used near the visitors, is furnished with a big breakfast-table. The cosy bed rooms have soft red and green lights and individual lamps, with some oriental elements. Since we hate bunk-beds from our own experiences in Singapore, Amsterdam and elsewhere, we haven't a single one! You will sleep exclusively on little single or double beds, or on thick high quality mattre es. There are just a few very simply furnished bed-rooms, with colored bed-covers, wooden german beds or japanese futons on wooden floors. The common showers in the style of the Alhambra in Granada are offered 24 hours. and can be used alone or with others together, as wished. Inside is inclusively smoke-free fresh air, since smoking is only outside on the street permitted. Or in our little inside court grounds, as long as you keep quiet there. 10) FREE GERMAN CONVERSATION Since John and David have now 2 hostels, our superb expert for German conversation, Mrs. Wilhelmine Krug has to divide her things to do on 2 differnt positions. She entertains the young German-learners with the patience of her 84 years, and visitors may book a special chair nearby the old lady, who devotes her valuable time, to be helpful for those in trouble.
