Pousada-Tauma is a 10-minute walk from Calangute beach / sea and has all the aura of a mini resort - irregular shaped pool with bar and water-cascade, a spa, sky Televisions and direct-dial telephones in every room. But it is done on such an intimate scale (there are only 12 suites) that it feels much more chic, as if you are the personal visitor of the delightful Indian owner-manager. The Pousada is as well one of those rare places in Goa where the noise level hasn't sent the local mongooses into hiding, while the groundss, thick with palm fronds, are like a Rou eau tableau. The rooms, all with patios, are air-conditioned and simply decorated with colonial-style furniture; the bathrooms covered with shattered tiles, are almost Gaudi-esque. The 12 air conditioned suites comprise of 3 Standard suites, 7 Superior suites and 2 luxury suites. Each suite has a theme. It as well has its own personal dining vicinity, bedroom with a dre ing table, wardrobe and a patio with a personal, detached grounds or terrace. STD/ISD dialing amenities, tv with sky transmi ion channels and a 'minibar' are all included as well. Run near a therapist, the spa specialises in Ayurvedic treatments and there is a doctor for detailed consultations (a full range of treatments is offered, from ma age to sirolepa, a cure for insomnia where herb paste is applied to the head and the body bathed and oiled). Although Ayurvedic cuisine is offered on request, it would be a pity to eat boiled vegetables when you could be feasting on lobster masala or prawn balchao, a spicy Goan speciality cooked to idealion.
