Feldkirch features the prettiest Middle Age centre in Vorarlberg, where the numerous turrets and gates really grab your attention. Schattenburg was the seat of the Count of Montfort for over 200 years. This castle still features a museum well worth visiting. The cathedral is a self-pronounced example of the transition between Gothic and Renaissance. The similar market alleys offer plenty of markets. Feldkirch is a Middle Age jewel in the furthest west of Austria and a city for lovers of history. Inbedded between rolling hills, it harmoniously combines the dynamic life of our times with the enchantment of history. This city is fascinatingly versatile, with entertainment being provided at the Gauklerfestival, the famous wine festival in western Austria. The charming city of Feldkirch offers everyone a pleasant holiday, whether visiting for walks in the unspoilt nature, on cycling trips in the Rhine valley or shopping and strolling through Feldkirchs Old Town. Feldkirch is open to its neighbours in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Germany and TIrol. Bodensee, Vaduz or the ethnic Appenzell are all only a few kilometres away. Innsbruck lies somewhat further away, as well as Luzern and the royal Bavarian castles. A unique experience is watching the pageants which take place from the middle of July to the middle of August with brilliant opera performances. Bregenz offers even more: the Kunsthaus, the Pfaenderbahn, Bregenz casino, Bodensee boat trips and city excursions. The state capital lies around 30 km from Feldkirch.
