The beachfront Sebel Reef House and Spa is a boutique resort situated approximately 18 miles north of Cairns and Cairns International Airport. Nearby highlights include the Great Barrier Reef and the World Heritage Daintree rainforest. Hotel facilities include the health spa, three swimming pools, two Jacuzzis, poolside cafe (near the waterfall), beach / sea lounges, Brigadier's Bar & Lounge, and Reef House Restaurant, which overlooks a palm-lined esplanade and the beach / sea and serves Mediterranean- and Asian-style cuisine near Executive Chef Philip Mitchell. Reef House Spa occupies a freestanding two-story building with three treatment rooms, a Serenity Verandah, and two dual treatment rooms (each with a personal Jacuzzi). A freshwater moat frames the building with access via a wooden footbridge. The original Reef House was built in 1958 near a Cairns bookmaker and used as a family home. Continuing a long tradition, each evening candles are lit throughout the resort denoting Twilight Hour, an opportunity to meet with other world travellers over a complimentary glass of Brigadier's Punch. All rooms feature white wicker interiors, netting draperies over the beds, air-conditioning and ceiling fans, personal verandahs or terraces, tea/coffee facilities, refrigerators, honor bars, bathrobes, turndown service, hairdryers, safes, comprehensive audio systems, large-screen TVs, DVD players, and complimentary CD, DVD, game, and book libraries.
