The Saracens attacked the old town of Paphos several times, for the purpose of looting, especially stripping the churches of their treasures. Yet, Theoskepasti was saved because, according to legend, everytime the Saracens came close, a thick divine cloud would descend and cover the church and thus, the Saracens lost sight of it.
