The Solvang grounds Lodge was the first motel in Solvang, built in 1950 when few people even knew that Solvang existed. It was fashioned after a classic Danish farmhouse and placed in an idyllic position on the fringe of the village, looking over the rolling hills of the Alisal visitor Ranch and the Santa Ynez River. Because of its lovely grounds setting, the name of the motel was changed in 1999 to the Solvang grounds Lodge.
