According to the legacy: Neptune had seen Amfitriti dancing with the other Nereids in Naxos. He fell madly in love with her and he decided to steal her. Amfitriti wanting to avoid him, resorted to Atlas to the utmost limits of the sea. Neptune sent the dolphin to seek her, which found her and brought her close to him. As remuneration, the god of the sea gave the dolphin constellation in order for it to live for all eternity. Amfitriti was worshipped with great acknowledgments in many cities of historic Greece - mainly coastal cities such as the Cyclades, Lesvos, Thassos and elsewhere. The figure of the striking Nereid inspired many artists from the historic years and up to today.
